Ok, so as you all can see, I am terrible at keeping this updated. One of my goals for the new year is to do a better job. MB is growing like a weed and keeping us very busy, so there is alot to catch up on. Stay tuned for the updates to come!

A Week Of Firsts

This week has been an eventful week for MB! We recently purchased a bigger car seat and decided we would install it because she was getting uncomfortable in her infant seat. She hasn't hit 20 pounds yet, but she thinks she needs to be sitting up ALL the time! The car seat is so big it looks like is swallows her, but she really seems to like it. We placed it where she can see out the window and we have a mirror above her on the seat rest so she can see herself.

Another big step is the MB went to class at church Wednesday night! I think it was harder on me than it was on her. Ms. Carolyn said she was very well behaved and when I got there to get her she was all smiles! I am so glad that she had a good time and didn't cry! I did get the co-teacher to snap some pictures with my camera, so enjoy!! You can tell it was getting close to bed time in the last picture!

The last BIG news has probably been the hardest on me! This week we have been putting MB to bed in her own room! Until now, she has been in a bassinet beside our bed. I have enjoyed having her so close, but as Jonathan says, we need to get her in her crib now or we will regret it later! She is outgrowing her bassinet, so it was the perfect time for it. She has not made it all the way through the night yet, but I am confident that she will. Maybe I will start to sleep better without her beside me soon, too!

I Feel The Need To Brag!!

I know this is a blog that is usually dedicated to our sweet MB, but today I want to brag on my wonderful husband! He began his Graduate School work in January at FHU. He is participating in the on-line business classes to get his MBA with a focus in leadership. We knew this was going to take a lot of time during the week and were very willing to make the necessary sacrifices. Jonathan has always made "good grades," but he was a little nervous about going back to school after being out 5 years. I, however, knew that he would do a great job! He recently finished his first class and I am happy to report he got an "A" in the class! I was so excited and he was very happy. He worked so hard and I am so glad his hard work paid off. He is a wonderful husband and father and I am very proud to be his wife! I know that the rest of his classes are going to go just as well!

Rolling Over

We have been waiting for a while to see when our sweet MB would roll over, she has been trying for quite a while. Well, yesterday afternoon I laid her in the floor to take care of something and the remote was above her. Well, next thing I know, she is on her tummy playing with the remote! I was so excited! The first thing I did was send Jonathan a message to let him know. I got down on the floor with her and she rolled over 2 more times. So, I knew then it wasn't an accident! When Jonathan got home last night, he wanted to see her do it and try to video tape it. So, we all got on the floor and she did it another 2 times. This time it didn't take her as long, so she is really rolling over now! Our little girl is really growing and hitting lots and lots of milestones!

Time Flies When You Are Having Fun!

I can't believe it is already March, it seems like the time has flown by. We are having so much fun in the McKnight house and I know there is much more fun to come! Let me give a brief recap of what has taken place so far this year.

After Christmas, we traveled to Nashville to have New Year's with family. New Year's Day we traveled 10 hours from White House to Granby, Missouri to spend some time with my (rebecca's) grandparents and extended family there. Most of them had not had the privilege of meeting our sweet Mary Beth and were very excited to get to know her and spend some time with us as well.

Jonathan and I were able to take some time to ourselves in January by taking a weekend trip to a resort in Crossville, TN. Mary Beth got to spend some quality time with Nana, Pa, Aunt Laura, Uncle David, and Ella. She also had a visit from her Aunt Carolee and cousins Madeline and Lily. I think she had fun because she slept straight through the night all 3 nights.

January also brought our first unscheduled doctor's visit. The outcome of that visit? An ear infection in her right ear and pink eye in one eye. Luckily, Mary Beth didn't mind taking antibiotics or having drops put in her eye. Needless to say, that was a LONG week! The following week, we followed up with the doctor with her 4 month round of immunizations. Let me tell you, as a mommy, I was worn out. I was looking forward to having my sweet happy MB back! :)

I guess the last big news from January is that Mary Beth started eating cereal and baby food! So far, we have had all the level 1 veggies and every fruit but prunes and she likes them all! Of course, she likes some more than others. I would say that her favorites are carrots, squash, applesauce, and bananas! Here are a few pictures of our baby food experiences so far.

February was just as eventful! Mary Beth and I took 2 Fridays to meet Nana, Aunt Laura and Ella at Cool Springs mall in Franklin, TN. We had a ball! We joked and said we drove that far to sit in dressing rooms and talk. I think those trips are going to be a monthly tradition!

We also had a visit from Grammy and Granddad one Saturday. Mary Beth enjoyed the chance to get to know them better during the day and I know they enjoyed it just as much!

February ended as January did! Mary Beth got another ear infection and this time it was in her left ear. It was bad enough that she not only had to have antibiotics but ear drops as well. I can honestly say it is not easy putting drops in a 5 month old's ear, especially a wiggle worm like MB!

December 2008

December was a full month!!! Jonathan took another business trip to Virginia, so MB and I went and spent that time with Nana and Pa. The pictures are from that trip. We had fun getting to spend time with everyone but missed Jonathan terribly. While we were there, MB discovered Mickey Mouse Clubhouse which is her cousin Ella's favorite cartoon. The picture on the bottom right is of MB while she was sitting watching it with Ella. I thought it was so sweet and now we watch it almost every morning!

We had an early Christmas with my side of the family and while we were there for the weekend we were able to go see "Uncle Phil's Diner." That is a play that the Madison Church of Christ did and Nana was in it! She was a Dinner Bell, so she sang Christmas carols during the play. The carols were very funny though because all the words were changed like instead of Silverbells, it was Silverware! Nana was even lucky enough to have a solo. I know some of the pictures are small, but they are all from that night at the play. Below is a collage of pictures from when we opened all our presents that morning at Nana and Pa's. Ella and MB really racked up and we had a great time!

We were able to spend several days in Henderson for Christmas and we had a great time! MB loved getting to spend time with everyone there and so did Jonathan and I. The pictures below are from our time there!

A Month of FUN!!!

It has been a month since I last updated and Mary Beth has grown so much! We don't know exactly how much she weighs, but she has advanced to size 1 diapers! She is much more alert during the day, sleeping 4-5 hours at a time at night(most nights), and her personality is really starting to show! It absolutely melts my heart when she looks at me and smiles.

The 3rd week in October Jonathan went on a business trip to Virginia, so MB and I went to stay in Nashville with my Mom and Dad. Nana and Pa enjoyed having MB there to spoil and she got to spend some real quality time with her cousin Ella. We had a great visit, but missed J very much.

MB also enjoyed her first Halloween. We never thought we would find a costume small enough, but I did! She was a ladybug and was the cutest little ladybug I have ever seen! She was able to wear her costume to our Fall Festival at church and was a huge hit with everyone, even though she slept the whole time! We look forward to next year when MB can dress up at Kermit! Thanks "Aunt" Becky!

Her next doctors appointment is the 18th and we look forward to seeing how much she has grown. I am going to try and do better about updating our blog, I haven't done that well so far!

Doctor's Visit

Jonathan and I took Mary Beth for her 2 week check-up this morning and everything went great! She weighs 6lbs, 9oz and is 19 inches long. She has surpassed her birth weight and has grown an inch and a half. She growing like a weed, but I guess that is expected when she wants to eat soooo much! Having to bottle feed took some getting used to, but she is doing great with the formula! She is also starting to get her days and nights together! Yay! Most nights, we get about 3 hours of sleep at a time before she gets hungry so that makes it easier to get up.

Jonathan has gone back to work so it is just us girls during the day now. I was a little nervous to be by myself, but she is such a good baby it has been easy so far. I feel so blessed!

I am enjoying our little girl so much and trying to take everything in because she seems to change so much from day to day! Being a mother is amazing!

Life after Mary Beth...

I knew having a child would change things, but I never imagined exactly how wonderful it would be! Even through all the Drs visits for Mary Beth and for me, things have finally started to slow down. The last update, we were in the hospital with our little glow worm. She was abslutely amazing through the whole experience. She did so well just laying under the lights with her eyes covered and didn't fuss at all! It was harder on Mommy for sure!

While we were in the hospital with her, I started having some trouble breathing and some chest pain, so the nurse on the Peds floor thought I should go to the ER to make sure everything was ok. So, even though I didn't want to leave Mary Beth, Jonathan stayed in the room with her and I went down to the ER. After being there for 4 hours, they finally told me (after many tests) that I had quite a bit of fluid build up on my lungs. They gave me a Lasix to get the fluid off and told me I would be fine. Long story short, the next day the ER called back and said another radiologist had reviewed my x-rays and CT and found something the other didn't and I needed to go see my doctor for a follow up. Needless to say, he told me that before Mary Beth was born I was probably on my way to having pre-eclampsia due to the swelling. He gave me a prescription for lasix and I am finally feeling much much better!

We do have one more Dr appointment on Monday for Mary Beth at a Pediatric Urologist because of the fluid on her kidneys, so we are asking for prayer that it has corrected itself since she has been born. I will update things as soon as we know from that appointment.

Like I said, despite all the unfortunate things that have happened, we are both doing great now and life couldn't be better!

Home sweet...hospital?

Rebecca, Mary Beth and I were able to come home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, and we spent our first night at home alone. Nana, Pa, Laura, and Ella all went home, and we had a very quiet evening. You don't realize how loud a hospital is until you get home.

Mary Beth didn't sleep well. That means Mama didn't sleep well, either. And that means Daddy didn't sleep well, too. From everyone I've talked to, that's normal, especially for a first night home. Mary Beth started out in her crib, and we had moved her to her papazan chair by midnight. That meant that Rebecca moved to the couch. And Jonathan stayed in bed.

A side note here, Jonathan didn't stay in bed because he's a bad daddy. He registered to take the GMAT on Monday the 22nd so that he could have it out of the way before Mary Beth comes. Well, Mary Beth spoiled that one. So, on about six restless hours of sleep, he scored a 600. That means that he'll most likely start grad school at University of Alabama at Huntsville in January.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming...
Rebecca took Mary Beth to her first doctor's appointment this morning while Jonathan was taking the GMAT. The bloodwork came back for Mary Beth about 3:00 and her biliruben count was 19.01. Dr. Parmer wanted to admit her to the hospital to be put under the "glow lights" to help break down the bilirubens. So I'm writing this from Decatur General Hospital, Suite 3. A glowing Mary Beth sends her love to everyone.

Mary Beth, Day 2

Before you read more, understand that we don't really plan on giving an update on Mary Beth every day. We are still in the hospital, and the plan is for us to go home tomorrow. Mary Beth is doing great, Rebecca seems to be recovering quickly, and Jonathan is just trying to soak it all in. This whole experience has been incredible, and we are looking forward to raising our beautiful little girl.

New Addition!

Welcome to the world, Mary Elizabeth McKnight! We were blessed with her entrance to this world at 9:28 AM today. Mary Beth was 17 1/2 inches long and 6 lbs, 1 oz. I know that we are biased, but she is beautiful. We love her! Here are some pictures of her shortly after her arrival.

So, with Mary Beth coming in a couple of weeks we decided that we needed a way to keep family and friends updated as life gets more exciting! I have always enjoyed reading others Blogs, but never thought much about having my own. I am going to do the best I can to keep it updated as often as I can, but bare with me as I know life is going to be a lot more hectic after she arrives! Hope you enjoy reading about our little family and that it will be a good way for all of us to keep in touch better!
